| MIRP works closely with GIS specialists to bring you up-to-date population numbers and socio-economic classes within any catchment area. Population and other patterns, including land use, can be depicted on digital and analogue maps for better visualisation and marketing purposes. |

What is Geodemographics? GeoDemographics combines both geography and demographic (population) data, through the application of GIS (geographical information systems) to the analysis of demographic data. It only started to become more mainstream in market analysis and planning in the 1990s, when traditional census-based geodemographics were integrated with other more up-to-date private commercial data-sets, including data sampled or mapped in the field, data derived from remote sensing (aerial photography and satellite imagery), and other locationally-referenced data from customer and client address lists, point-of-sales surveys, and the mining of geo-referenced information stored in data warehouses. Today,
GeoDemographics uses cutting-edge information technologies such as desktop-based
GIS Systems, to link population-related information to spatial (map)
data, that relate people to locations at increasingly more micro-levels.
Geodemographic Applications: The digital mapping of demographic data, which is the basis of geodemographics, has many applications such as:
Business Geographics: The emergence in the 1990s of GIS applications in business spawned a new term, "Business Geographics". Today, Business Geographics is the fastest-growing worldwide market segment in the GIS industry, and is increasingly widely accepted in the business world as a necessary corollary to other techniques to make the firm more information-rich, more efficient, and more able to meet the challenges of the 21st Century so as to remain market leaders and maximize profits. The prudent investor or entrepreneur, therefore, should factor in the locality's demographic numbers and processes with the same level of care he or she would do so for equally important economic, financial and return-on-investment statistics. Investment in vital information will definitely contribute to better management decision-making and hence, business success.
